Project call

Global warming, species extinction, energy transition, environmental management, extreme events (volcanic eruption, tsunami, etc.), pollution diffusion, are all examples of phenomena that are very difficult to approach. Understanding these phenomena, their interactions with other environmental factors (pollution, land use, etc.), and their impacts requires modelling in which mathematics has a very important role to play through high-quality multidisciplinary approaches.

The CNRS, thanks to the impetus of INSMI and the participation of INEE, INP, and INSU, created in 2021, in partnership with the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, the Universities of Clermont Auvergne, Grenoble Alpes, Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and Savoie Mont Blanc, the Institute of Mathematics for the Planet Earth (IMPT). In 2022, Paris-Dauphine University and the University of Montpellier joined the Institute, allowing it to expand its actions.

It is an institute without walls, with a national range of actions, federating the mathematical community to address questions from other scientific fields in a necessarily multidisciplinary approach.

Themes of the call for projects 2023

A call for projects is launched annually, the theme of which is discussed within the IMPT scientific council and validated by the council of parties.

For the 2023 call, special attention will be given to projects dealing with the following theme

- Socio-economics of the environment: mitigation, adaptation, resilience, urban planning, mobility, agriculture and fisheries, resource management (energy, water, etc.), ...

However, the Scientific Council wishes to keep the possibility of considering projects on other themes with high scientific and interdisciplinary value and therefore also displays a

- General call.

Research projects, and also dissemination projects, that are able to launch new collaborations, as well as those for which the imperative of an immediate launch is correctly justified (link with a current data collection programme, with a particular event, ...), will be favoured. See the IMPT website (in French) for the themes covered by the Institute.

The procedure to apply is described in the file AAP2023 (right column). The call closes on March 10th, 2023 (23:59).
